The Ordinary - Too Good to be True?

April 27, 2017

I spotted The Ordinary on ASOS around a month or so ago and couldn't believe my eyes at the price. Realising that I recognised the brand, I had a quick google, read through some reviews and decided to try some of the products out.

The products I bought were: Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Serum, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum, Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% Serum and the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer.

 Left-Right: Caffeine, Hyaluronic, Lactic, Primer.

Caffeine Solution 6% + EGCG Serum: This is serum for your eye area that is supposed to reduce the appearance of eye contour pigmentation of puffiness. This is probably my most used product out of the lot, yet because you only need the tiniest drop, it looks as if I haven't used the product at all. This product has definitely helped with the puffiness around my eye area. I normally wake up with puffy eyes but since I've introduced this product into my routine, puffy eyes have become an annoying but rare occurrence! I do also feel as though the dark pigment around my eyes has been reduced. I use this morning and night and I love it.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum: I've spent a lot of money on hyaluronic acid serums that haven't worked anywhere as well as this! I use this every morning and my skin feels all the better for it. Hyaluronic acid is one of my favourite skin-care ingredients to look out for as I have dry skin and anything that can help with that sounds good to me! This serum is labelled as a hydration support formula with ultra-pure vegan hyaluronic acid and it definitely does what it says on the tin.

Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% Serum: I use this serum at night, as a mild exfoliant. I've never used lactic acid before so figured that this was a cheap way to try it out. This comes in two strengths, 5% and 10% so I opted for the weaker one as my skin is young and inexperienced and I didn't want to stress it out. This product hasn't 'wowed' me, but it hasn't disappointed me either. It's helped a little with rough patches and those little bumps I get on my forehead, which is impressive for a product that I've only been using for a short while. I think I just need more time with this one to truly make my mind up.

High-Spreadability Fluid Primer: This product is chock full of silicone and you can tell- it feels like velvet on the skin. This primer makes makeup apply smoothly and blend like a dream. I feel as though it does make my makeup last longer, but then I practically rub off most of my makeup by the time I get home anyway; a combination of leaning on my hands, eating and rubbing my eyes... can hayfever season be over already?

From what I've tried, The Ordinary brand gets two thumbs-up from me. It's insanely affordable, cruelty-free and vegan while still being a top quality brand. It's the perfect brand for a skin-care newbie to try out without having to spend a lot of money on finding what works. I'm dying to try their foundations next and I'll report back to you on those too!

Have you tried anything from The Ordinary?
