The Overnight Bag

November 16, 2017

When I'm staying overnight somewhere, it often means I have to travel by train so lots of baggage is not an option! So for occasions like these, I like my makeup bag to be as streamlined as the rest of me. I don't want to carry around difficult things to travel with, such as makeup brushes, so I like to stick to products that can be easily applied with my fingers.

Skincare-wise, I often take minis with me that I've receive with GWPs. I have a mini version of Tidal, Advanced Night Repair serum, Glow Tonic and even a teeny Take The Day Off balm for makeup removal! Little pots are so useful for travel when you love the products, I just keep and refill them so that I don't have to bring extra weight with me.

I always struggle to sleep anywhere that isn't my own bed, so I expect to be tired in the morning. An illuminating primer and a good eye concealer is key for not looking so shabby after a rough night's sleep. I often use Estée Lauder The Illuminator Primer and Finisher as I have a miniature version thats easy to take on the go, or I use a bit of the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter in Moonstone and mix a little bit in with my foundation on the back of my hand. This helps to give the skin a radiant, healthy glow without looking greasy! My favourite eye concealer for wide-awake eyes is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush-On Glow BB in 1C, I find this really brightens up the eye area and adds a nice touch of coverage and hydration.

Foundation-wise, I'll take my favourite at the moment- Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh (that's a mouthful!) which is super easy to apply with fingers and has the added benefit of SPF 30 so I don't need to bring a separate sun protection with me. Read my full review on this foundation here.

Creme products are a godsend for travelling as they're super easy to use! On the eyes I'll use this mini Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Amethyst which is probably the best item I've ever got from a Birchbox! It's a beautiful, soft mauve-y colour that blends really easily on the eyes with a ring finger for a soft wash of colour. To finish it all off I'll pop on a couple of coats of Tanya Burr's Selfie Lash mascara and brush some of her Selfie Sculpt brow pencil in Medium. I'm a big fan of both of these, especially the brow pencil- it's a good dupe for Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz/brow definer in Medium brown and for half the price! I'm enjoying the mascara, it's super buildable and separates my lashes well. My only qualm with it is that it's difficult to apply to the lashes in the corner of the eyes because the bristles are so short! However, it's a great price and is well worth the money.

Lips and cheeks wise, I'll just pop a little bit of whichever lipstick I'm into at the moment onto my cheeks as well. It saves on space as well as being the perfect blush for my lipstick! Brave by Mac is one of my faves at the moment- it's a beautiful pink that runs a little purple on me and works really well on the cheeks too!

What can't you bear to leave at home when you go away?
